Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino is a highly respected expression of Sangiovese from the Montalcino region of Tuscany, Italy. Often referred to as the "baby Brunello," it shares the same esteemed terroir and grape variety (100% Sangiovese) as its more famous, longer-aged sibling, Brunello di Montalcino, but is released earlier, offering a more immediate and approachable drinking experience.

Wines from Il Poggione are known for their quality and classic style. Their Rosso di Montalcino typically exhibits an intense ruby red color. On the nose, you'll often find a fruity bouquet dominated by red berry notes like cherry and plum, sometimes with hints of dried herbs, spice, or earthy undertones. On the palate, it's generally well-structured, with a balance of fruit intensity, refreshing acidity, and smooth, velvety tannins. While ready to drink upon release, its structure allows for some short-term aging. It's a versatile food-pairing wine, excellent with pasta dishes with meat sauces, roasted or grilled meats, and medium-strength cheeses. Il Poggione ages their Rosso for around 12 months in a combination of large French oak barrels and smaller barriques, followed by bottle aging, which contributes to its complexity and softened tannins.
